ACC Foundation Awards Grants and Honors Staff

The Alvin Community College Foundation recently announced the winners of the 2021 Excellence Awards and Innovative Initiative grant awards.

The Innovative Initiative Grants are designed to encourage, facilitate, recognize and reward innovative and creative approaches to fulfill the mission of Alvin Community College. The grants will be used for the 2021-22 academic year.

The ACC Foundation also presented faculty and staff members with the Foundation Excellence Awards which recognize college faculty and staff members.

This year, two winners were announced for each category including faculty members; technical, support, clerical and maintenance employees; and professional staff members.

The 2021 winners were faculty members Jeannine Wilburn, program director for Child Development and Education and Charles Kilgore, Math faculty member and department chair; TSCM Ike Gonzalez, Environmental Systems technician and Sydney Hildenburg, executive administrative assistant for Development and Outreach; and professional/administrative staff Dr. Debbi Fontenot, Nursing program director and Steve Cabrera, Network manager.

Each recipient of an Excellence Award will receive $1,000.

The Innovative Initiative grants went to several programs to. A total of $6,650 was awarded to the recipients.

The Foundation awarded $2,000 grant to purchase calculators that can be loaned out to students in need taking Math courses.

A $1,500 grant went to the purchase of a digital audio interface for a podcast studio in the Communications program.

A $650 grant was awarded for the creation of the Program Strengths Initiative which will conduct assessments for faculty and staff in the Continuing Education Workforce Development program to determine their strengths and how best to utilize them.

A $500 grant will be used to assist students in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice to purchase their transcripts in order to apply at ACC.

The Foundation issued a $2,000 to establish a Biodiversity Center that will be located adjacent to the college greenhouse and the Pollinator Habitat outside the Science/Health Science Building.

The Foundation is a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization. Its mission is to provide opportunities for students, faculty and the college.
