ACC Player Selected in MLB Draft
Alvin Community College pitcher Owen Holt was recently selected in the Major League Baseball draft by the Cincinnati Reds.
Holt, of Houston, was taken in the 16th round of the draft and was the 480th overall pick.
“Owen came in with a mid-90 MPH fastball and good secondary stuff,” ACC Baseball Coach Jason Schreiber said. “His personality and leadership was the attributes that impressed me the most. There is no doubt Owen will thrive in professional baseball.”
Owen pitched for ACC this past season not long after he signed on to play for Harvard University.
“He came to us for the Spring semester,” Schreiber said. “He wanted to play baseball and the Ivy League was not having their season due to COVID. Immediately Owen embraced the juco life and he fit in right away. ”
Owen was 7-3 in the Spring season for ACC with 65 strikeouts and a 10.26 K/9 ratio.
This summer Holt has been pitching for the Williamsport Crosscutters in the MLB Draft League.
