ACC to Host Welding Showdown
The Alvin Community College Welding Department will hold its first Gulf Coast Community College Welding Showdown on November 4 at the ACC campus.
The competition will feature welding students from several local schools including ACC, Houston Community College, Wharton Junior College, College of the Mainland, Western Texas College, Texas State Technical College and Brazosport College. Each college will have six students participating.
“Our vision is to have a fun competition, and a networking event for instructors, students, vendors, and employers,” said Leroy Brigman, ACC Welding coordinator.
Students can compete in several categories involving different forms of welding including Stick, Tig and MIG/FLUX on root plates and piping.
The showdown also includes a job fair for students seeking employment after they finish their education.
Food trucks and local vendors will also be on hand during the Showdown.
The event will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. outside the D Building. It is free and open to the public.
