Performing Ensembles


Vocal Ensembles

Concert Choir

Concert ChoirThe Concert Choir is open to all who love to sing and provides opportunities to perform with a quality choral ensemble while a student at ACC. Both music majors and non-music majors sing with this group and are eligible for scholarships. The ensemble performs at least two concerts per year and is accompanied by a professional orchestra on major works. Student soloists have many opportunities to perform in these concerts.

Choir members may audition for the Texas Two Year College All State Choir. If chosen, these students will spend four days in San Antonio at the Texas Music Educators Conference in rehearsals and performance.

Chamber Singers

Chamber Singers is an auditioned ensemble that performs a wide variety of music from Renaissance madrigals to pop and jazz standards, and musical theatre. Both music majors and non-music majors sing with this group and are eligible for scholarships. These students perform numerous concerts per year and are regularly called upon to perform at community events and Texas state functions.

Alvin Community Chorus

The Alvin Community Chorus is made up of amateur and professional musicians from the gulf coast area and performs two major concerts per year. Membership is open to high school students and adults who love to sing and these are joined by ACC faculty also. We sing a wide variety of repertoire and major works are accompanied by a professional orchestra.

Instrumental Ensembles

Concert Band

ACC Concert BandThe Concert Band is composed of wind and percussion players. Music majors and non-music majors perform with this group and are eligible for scholarships. ACC faculty also play in the band. The group performs a variety of traditional and contemporary wind band music. The Concert Band, along with the Alvin Community Band, perform at least one concert per semester and other performances as scheduled. Admission to this group is open to all ACC students with director approval.

Student band members may audition for the Texas Community College Band Directors Association All State Concert Band. If chosen, these students will spend four days in San Antonio at the Texas Music Educators Conference in rehearsals and performance.

Jazz Band

The Jazz Band provides instrumentalists with opportunities to learn and perform music in the jazz and pop realm. While instrumentation can vary, traditional big band instrumentation is followed including trumpets, trombones, saxophones, piano, guitar, bass guitar, and drums. We also have positions for vocalists and sound technicians. Music majors and non-music majors perform with this group and are eligible for scholarships. The jazz band performs concerts on campus as well as at festivals throughout the state. Admission to this group is open to all ACC students with director approval.

Jazz band members may audition for the Texas Community College Band Directors Association All State Jazz Ensemble. If chosen, these students will spend four days in San Antonio at the Texas Music Educators Conference in rehearsals and performance. The band performs concerts on campus as well as at festivals throughout the state.

The Alvin Community Band

The Alvin Community Band was founded in 1994 and is an extension of ACC's music program. The band consists of amateur and professional musicians from the gulf coast area and performs 5 to 7 concerts per year. In addition to campus concerts the Alvin Community Band performs at a variety of community events. Membership is open to experienced college students and adults who play wind and percussion instruments. High school band students are allowed based on instrumentation needs pending approval of the director.

Rehearsals are on Thursdays from 7:00 – 8:30 pm.

Other Ensembles are offered based on interest and enrollment. These instrumental ensembles include, Percussion Ensemble, Brass Ensemble, Woodwind Ensemble, Jazz Combo and Guitar Ensemble.
