Respiratory Therapy 
There are many careers within the health science industry, including jobs requiring patient care to laboratory testing and healthcare management. Programs range from several months of study for a certificate degree, to two years of study for degrees that prepare students for the workforce immediately upon completion or towards a Bachelor’s Degree. This Career Pathway will offer students an opportunity to explore and learn more about occupations in healthcare that are seldom considered but offer promising careers and financial stability.

Diagnostic Cardiovascular Sonography

Sonography is the use of high-frequency sound waves, also known as ultrasound, to observe the internal world of the human body.

Emergency Medical Technology

If you enjoy helping others, have lots of patience and like an adrenaline rush when being called into action, you may be the perfect fit to become an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).

Health Information Management

Health Information Management involves the administration, accuracy, storage and security of data related to electronic health records (EHRs).

Mental Health and Addiction Counseling

ACC’s Mental Health and Addiction Counseling Department offers students the opportunity to meet license requirements for chemical dependency counseling (LCDC) and/or to work in a variety of human services environments. 

Neurodiagnostic Technology

If you are curious about the human brain and desire employment in an Allied Health profession, then a career in Neurodiagnostic Technology might be right for you.

Nursing

Nursing is a high-paying, well-respected, and in-demand career path. With a degree in nursing from ACC, you can become an RN in just two years or transfer to a four-year university to obtain your bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) degree. 

Pharmacy Technician

Pharmacy Technicians, integral and critical members of the health care team, work with Pharmacists in drug preparation, distribution, and management in a variety of health care settings. 

Polysomnography (Sleep Medicine)

Polysomnographic (PSG) Technology is a special branch of allied health that diagnoses and treats sleep disorders. ACC is one of two colleges and the first in the state of Texas to offer this degree.

Respiratory Care

Respiratory therapists are the experts in their facility for respiratory care technology. The program will teach you how to work with advanced medical equipment that is instrumental in helping people who have trouble breathing.

Health Science

Health Science involves a large group of disciplines related to the health care of humans and animals. The program consists of health courses and core academic offerings geared to prepare you for transfer to a college/university.

Sports & Human Performance

ACC’s Sports and Human Performance program reflects the growing national interest in prevention of disease through achievement of optimal health and physical fitness. Graduates typically work in the health, corporate, community, or commercial fitness professions.

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) is an important frontline member of the health care team. LVNs provides basic patient care and are supervised by Registered Nurses, Physicians, Physician’s Assistants, Dentists and Podiatrists.

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

Becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) prepares you for a fulfilling career as a health care provider and serves as a great entry-point into many careers in medicine including licensed vocational nurse or a registered nurse. 

Clinical Medical Assistant (CMA)

CMAs assist with medical procedures, perform basic lab tests, administer medications, implement treatments, and explain basic care to patients.

CPR

Through the ACC Continuing Education CPR Program, you can learn to give “the breath of life” in one of our one-day training courses. The class meets the American Heart Association requirements for CPR programs.

Dental Assistant

Under the direct supervision of dentists, the Dental Assistant is responsible for assisting with patient care, performing minor lab functions and providing administrative support for the office.

Medical Office Billing Coding, CE

The Medical Office Billing and Coding program prepares students to work in a medical office setting and provide the skills and knowledge necessary for a more advanced medical records career.

Medication Administration for Nurse Aide, CE

In this 148-hour state-approved program, you will learn the skills needed for the safe administration of routine medications to residents in long-term care, MHMR facilities, licensed personal care facilities and correctional institutions. 

Phlebotomy Technician, CE

Working under the direct supervision of a certified medical technician, phlebotomy technicians (PBT) collect blood samples, from both skin punctures and from veins, and transport specimens to the laboratory to ensure the stability of the sample.

Veterinary Assistant, CE

Veterinary Assistants work closely with Veterinarians, Veterinary Technicians, pets and owners. Job duties include lifting and restraining animals, office and business skills, communication, clinical procedures and diagnostics, and much more.
